Prepare - G2090

Dear Jesus - Please send us Your Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and minds to know Your work...

Today's question is this:  If John 14:1-3 indicates there are already homes in Heaven, then what IS Jesus doing when He says He will 'prepare a place for you'?

There are multiple ways to arrive at this same answer.  Today we will do a strict study on G2090.  This is the concordance reference to the Greek word used in English as 'prepare'.  Reading through the list returned, here was my take away:

The beautiful thought that Jesus was prepared as our salvation - as testified to by the aged Simeon - from the foundation of the world!

Luke 2:27-32 (NASB)

27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, 28 then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 A Light of revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

Matthew 20:23 (NASB)

23 He *said to them, My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”

Mark 10:40 (NASB)

40 But to sit on My right or on My left, this is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”

Matthew 25:34 (NASB)

34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

We have but a small glimpse of what is in store for us!

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NASB)

9 but just as it is written,
Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Here is just a taste of what we will be doing - we will be priests and kings!  Sitting on the side of Jesus, we will be judges!  What an amazing thought...

1 Corinthians 6:2-3 (NASB)

2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?

Hebrews 11:16 (NASB)

16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

Revelation 21:2 (NKJV)

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Thank You Jesus that You are working on our behalf, working to help us overcome sin so we can sit with You!
